> At that time, when the Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara spoke this truth-word, the great earth of the three thousand great-thousand worlds and Mount Potalaka shook in six ways. Heavenly flowers rained down. All the devas, dragons, yakshas, rakshasas, asuras, gandharvas, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and even all the truth-word immortals in the assembly rejoiced, joined their palms, and offered various praises. All the evil devas, dragon-spirits, yakshas, rakshasas, and vighnas in the heavens fell, were burned by fire, ran about in panic, and uttered loud cries. All the great bodhisattvas held various flower-garlands and garments and at once made offerings to the universal-heart-seal truth-word samaya of the Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. All the devas, dragons, yakshas, rakshasas, asuras, gandharvas, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and even all the truth-word immortals who dwelled in the Buddha's Dharma, all came from their own palaces, holding flower-garlands, anointing oils, incense powders, jeweled banners and canopies, garments and necklaces, and at once went to the assembly-hall of Avalokiteshvara's palace on Mount Potalaka. There, before the Tathagata and before the Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, they circumambulated, made offerings, paid homage, and spoke in unison: "O Great Compassionate One! This vow of the great Amoghapasha's liberation lotus-mandala seal samaya, its universal-heart-seal truth-word Dharma-yoga vision and clear heart-flame samaya you speak— it is supremely rare!" At that time, the Tathagata Shakyamuni said to the Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara: "O Pure One, please further explain the universal-heart-seal truth-word Dharma-yoga vision samaya." At that time, the Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara said to the Buddha: "World-Honored One! If any sentient being, each day at dawn when the sun first rises, with a great compassionate mind and in accordance with the Dharma, practices this Dharma-yoga vision and recites the miraculous universal-heart-seal truth-word one thousand and eight times, that person will enter the samaya of the Unrealized (Amogha) magical manifestation of various forms. They will manifest all magical samayas. What is attained? They attain connection and abiding in the samaya of all mandala-seals. They attain abiding in the samaya of the world's wonderful auspiciousness of the Unrealized. They attain abiding in the samaya of being supremely revered by all sentient beings of the Unrealized. "In this present life and in the future, this person attains this vast, corresponding, praised-merit samaya and abides in it. World-Honored One! If one constantly, in the six periods of day and night, recollects the Buddhas, and totally delights in hearing, receiving, holding, reciting, and studying this, then one will be freed from birth, aging, sickness, death, and all karmic obstacles. One will cross the ocean of birth and death and abide in the stage of non-retrogression. World-Honored One! If there are monks, nuns, or faithful men or women, with pure faith and great compassion, constantly recollecting the Buddhas, seeking this sutra— if they themselves copy it or have others copy it, all the while generating compassionate minds, providing robes, wealth, food, and drink as offerings, and also encouraging all people to copy, receive, hold, recite, study, listen to, contemplate, and respectfully make offerings to it— they too should abide in the stage of non-retrogression. Such sentient beings are born from the Buddha-Dharma. They are said to be empowered by all Tathagatas, and will receive the prophecy of anuttara samyak sambodhi. The merit gained by this praise is like that of the Buddhas themselves. If one accomplishes this universal-heart-seal truth-word samaya, they should paint the image of the Unrealized King's supreme attainment samaya. The canvas (white cloth or silk) should be four cubits in size, but larger is also acceptable. In the center, paint the Eleven-faced Great Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Unrealized Lasso), with a true golden body and thirty-two arms. The central face is serene and cheerful, with a third eye between the eyebrows. The left face is that of Maheshvara, the right face of Narayana. Further, left face of Yama, right face of Varuna. Left face of Kubera, with knitted brows and angry eyes; right face of Kumara, with knitted brows and angry eyes. Left face of Maheshvara, with knitted brows, angry eyes, and fangs protruding upwards. Right face of Ishana, with knitted brows, angry eyes, and fangs protruding upwards. Right face of Surya (sun god), with a red-yellow complexion. Left face of Chandra (moon god), with a white-yellow complexion. Each wears a heavenly crown, and within the crown is a transformation Buddha making a blessing-gesture. Between the heads of Narayana and Varuna, the half-body of Vayu (wind god) appears, adorned with heavenly garments. Between the heads of Maheshvara and Yama, the half-body of Agni (fire god) appears, adorned with heavenly garments. The thirty-two hands form various mudras and hold various implements, including the lasso-seal, jeweled necklaces, earrings, bracelets, armlets, and heavenly garments. The body is encircled by a halo. They sit in full lotus posture on a jeweled lotus seat. To the right is the Wrathful King (Avalokiteshvara's wrathful form) with three faces and four arms. The central face is serene and smiling, the left and right faces have knitted brows and angry expressions. One hand holds a hook, one makes the gesture of fearlessness, one holds a lotus, and one holds a lasso. He gazes reverently at the Bodhisattva and sits in half-lotus posture. Behind is Tara Bodhisattva, slightly bowing her head, with palms joined in half-lotus posture. To the left is Bhrikuti (Tara's wrathful form), holding a jeweled flower, gazing at the Bodhisattva, in half-lotus posture. Behind is Shvetadevi (a female deity), slightly bowing her head, palms joined, in half-lotus posture. Below the seat to the right is the Unrealized Mandala Spirit, with an angry expression with fangs protruding upward, four arms: one holds a lasso, one a lotus, one an axe, one a sword, in half-lotus posture. Behind them, a truth-word practitioner kneels, holding an incense burner. "All these bodhisattvas have flower crowns, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, armlets, and various heavenly garments. They sit on lotus seats, their bodies encircled by halos. All around, paint the Buddhas of the ten directions in a teaching mode, sitting in full lotus posture on lion jeweled thrones, facing the Bodhisattva. Above the Buddhas' heads, paint ascetic immortals, with withered bodies. Paint all the heavenly princes scattering jeweled flowers. Below the seat, outside the Buddhas, paint Mahasri (Goddess of Merit), Sarasvati (Goddess of Eloquence), Bhimadevi, Maheshvara, Prithvi (Earth god), Agni, Vayu, Varuna. These deities are adorned with flower garlands and garments. At the four corners, according to the directions, paint the four great kings with various armor and ornaments. "Once the image is decorated, prepare a quiet place and purify the ground to make a mandala. Use various fragrances and clean it carefully and elaborately. Draw lotus seals and mark the boundary lines. Place the image of Eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara. Make offerings with various banners, flowers, water, scented water, incense, flowers, three kinds of white food (milk, curds, rice), fruits, lanterns, white sandalwood, aloeswood, resin, benzoin, and frankincense. Use the Wrathful King truth-word to protect the body and bind the boundaries. Draw the circle seal and line up the instruments. Sit facing west. With great compassion, visualize the syllable 'A', the dharma-origin of no-birth. This forms the lower body, the vajra-wheel seat. Visualize the syllable 'Va', the cessation of all speech and paths. This forms the upper body, visualized as mist pierced by sunlight. Visualize the syllable 'Ra', free from all defilements. This forms the heart-moon, like the first light of dawn. Visualize the syllable 'Hum', of empty-nature. The eyebrows are dark-blue; visualize the syllable 'Kha' (pronounced with rising tone), equal to space itself. This forms the top of the head, completing the samaya of all forms, equal to the Eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara. Then visualize the syllable 'A' as the head-halo, and visualize the syllable 'Ra' as the eyes, shining without obstruction. Then, before each period, first recite the Wrathful King truth-word to invite and make offerings. Then recite the universal-heart-seal truth-word, each syllable's color and light-blaze: either yellow, red, white, blue, or black light, shining upon the truth-word syllables. These revolve on the heart-moon to the right, all emitting light filling the ten thousand directions. In the middle of the night, the Eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara emits various lights. At the fifth watch, Avalokiteshvara appears and speaks: 'What do you seek? I will now fulfill it all for you.' Upon seeing the Bodhisattva, you should request two vows: First, the vow of the Unrealized (Amogha) Lasso Heart King Dharani truth-word— the great liberation lotus mandala seal samaya, the supreme worldly attainment, complete achievement, great vow, and being as free and able to transform in all manners as the Bodhisattva, including: techniques of miraculous creation, secret methods, supernatural powers, methods to enter Asura caves, palaces of devas, dragons, and kinnaras, walking on water, entering fire, entering all mountains and forests, making gold and silver, methods to cause and stop rain, subduing yakshas and rakshasas, finding buried treasures, crossing rivers and seas, divination (elephant, mystical signs), arithmetic, all truth-word methods, various medical methods, longevity medicine, moving objects, converting heretics and arrogant people— such worldly methods, all attained with freedom. Second, request the supramundane Dharma. At that time, Avalokiteshvara extends a hand and touches the practitioner's head, removing all karmic obstacles and heavy sins. The body and mind become pure, like a snake shedding its skin. They realize the Unrealized pure supernatural-path samaya-body, go to the pure land, sit on a lotus, and realize wisdom of hundreds of thousands of past lives. Amitabha Buddha grants them a prophecy of anuttara samyak sambodhi, and they abide in the stage of non-retrogression. They realize the Unrealized countless supernatural transformations samadhi. All Buddhas and great Bodhisattvas in all lands praise them, recollect them, observe them, and support them. Know that this universal-heart-seal truth-word has great supernatural power; it can accomplish all limitless worldly and supramundane dharmas. "Specifically, it can summon all gandharvas; divine one's lifespan; determine auspicious and inauspicious signs; heal all kinds of leprosy, wind disease, scabs, ringworm, malaria, abdominal disease, and diseases of the six sense faculties; eliminate all karmic obstacles, calamities, enmities, difficulties, written spells, prayers, and curses; and also accomplish supramundane dharmas. "At that time, Avalokiteshvara appears and says with praise: 'Excellent! Excellent! Truth-word practitioner! You have now entered the Unrealized Lasso Heart King Dharani truth-word— the great liberation lotus mandala seal— and accomplished the universal-heart-seal truth-word.' He holds out a lotus flower to the truth-word practitioner. When you receive the flower, you immediately attain supernatural powers in all dharmas. You can soar freely and without obstruction to all Buddha lands in the ten directions, and receive prophecies and protection from all Tathagatas."
