Sutra of the One-Syllable King of Spells from the Dharani Treasury of Manjushri Bodhisattva
Translation by Tripitaka Master Yijing, by Imperial Command
At that time, the World-Honored One Shakyamuni Buddha was in the Heaven of Pure Abode, seated in full lotus posture among the assembly of gods, with serene and upright attention. He surveyed the entire gathering and addressed them:
"All you divine beings! Listen with utmost sincerity to the wondrous practices of the Boy Manjushri—the ritual methods of the sacred altar, the incantations for healing and self-protection, the most secret and supreme mantra of the mind, which has been spoken and praised by all Tathagatas.
This Great King of Mantras: if any virtuous man or woman recites it, they will have upheld all sacred mantras. Let the heavenly beings know: no force can oppose this Great King of Mantras. Even the holy being Manjushri, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva himself, can be freely summoned, drawn here, and made to appear by this mantra to carry out various tasks—not to mention the other Bodhisattvas.
All worldly and transcendent mantras meet their match here; every hindrance is completely removed. It possesses great might, tremendous power, and divine efficacy, ranking supreme among all mantras—the one syllable that is the highest of the high.
This single syllable can accomplish every undertaking, perfectly fulfill all virtuous qualities, and forever stand above all worldly and transcendent charms, indestructible. It is the heart of all Buddhas, capable of fulfilling every wish.
All you heavenly beings! With one mind, listen to this most powerful and inconceivable supreme mantra."
Then he spoke the mantra:
Om Krodhaya(This represents four original syllables compressed into a single word, therefore both the Sanskrit and Chinese forms are preserved here.)
