A Brief Guide to the Lotus Samadhi Practice was written by the Song Dynasty Tiantai master Zunshi. This text emerged during the Northern Song period, when the Tiantai school's practical system had matured. Its main content is to provide clear and concise practical guidance and auxiliary instructions for monastics cultivating the Lotus Samadhi Repentance Ritual, covering key liturgical elements such as paying reverence, repentance, sutra recitation, and seated meditation. This work holds an important position within the Tiantai school. It systematically organizes and simplifies traditional repentance methods, aiding practitioners in deeply understanding the essence of Lotus Samadhi. It had a profound influence on later Tiantai practices of calming and insight (zhi-guan) and the transmission of repentance rituals, and is an important document for studying Song Dynasty Buddhist liturgy.
