### 何后寺道儀尼傳十三

道儀，本姓賈，雁門婁煩人，慧遠之姑。出𡣪同郡解直，直為尋陽令亡。儀年二十二，棄捨俗累，披著法衣。聰明敏哲，博聞強記。誦《法華經》，講《維摩》、《小品》，精義妙理，因心獨悟。戒行高峻，神氣清邈，聞中畿，經律漸備、講集相續。晉泰元末，乃至京師住何后寺，端心律藏，妙究精微。身執卑恭，在幽不惰。衣裳麁弊，自執杖鉢。清散無矯，道俗高之。年七十八，遇疾已篤，執心彌勵，誦念無殆。弟子請曰：「願加消息，冀蒙勝損。」答曰：「非所宜言。」言絕而卒。

> Dao Yi, whose family name was Jia, was from Loufan in Yanmen. She was the aunt of Hui Yuan. She married Xie Zhi, also from the same commandery, who served as magistrate of Xunyang before passing away. At age twenty-two, Dao Yi cast aside worldly entanglements and donned the Dharma robe. She was intelligent, sharp-witted, widely learned, and possessed a remarkable memory. She recited the Lotus Sutra and taught the Vimalakirti Sutra and the Smaller Prajna Sutra, gaining deep and subtle insights through her own innate understanding. Her moral discipline was lofty and pure, her spirit clear and detached, and her reputation spread throughout the central regions. As the teachings on the sutras and Vinaya gradually became complete, she gave lectures and gatherings in succession. In the last years of the Taiyuan era of the Jin dynasty, she went to the capital and resided at Hehou Temple. There, she single-mindedly devoted herself to the study of the Vinaya, exploring its subtleties and profound meanings with great skill. She conducted herself with humility and diligence, never slacking even in private. Her robes were coarse and worn; she carried her own staff and alms bowl. Pure and unrestrained, without pretense, she was highly esteemed by both monastics and laypeople. At age seventy-eight, she fell gravely ill, yet her resolve only grew stronger, and she continued chanting without pause. Her disciples requested, “We hope you will rest a little, so that you might recover.” She replied, “That is not what should be said.” With these words, she passed away.
