### 南永安寺曇徹尼傳二

> \*\*Biography of Nun Tan Che of Southern Yong'an Temple (Part Two)\*\*

曇徹尼，未詳何許人也。少為普要尼弟子，隨要住南永安寺。要道潔學優，有聞當世。徹秉操無矯，習業不休，佛法奧義，必欲總採，未及成戒，已究經論。具足已後，遍習毘尼，才堪機務，尤能講說，剖毫析滯，探賾幽隱，諸尼大小皆請北面。隨方應會負帙成群，五侯七貴婦女以下莫不修敬。年六十三，齊永明二年卒矣。

> Master Tanche: Her origins are unknown. In her youth, she became a disciple of the nun Puyao and followed her teacher to reside at Nanyong'an Temple. Puyao was renowned in her time for her pure conduct and profound learning. Tanche upheld herself with sincerity and diligence, never ceasing in her studies. She was determined to grasp the profound truths of Buddhism in their entirety, and even before fully receiving the precepts, she had already mastered the sutras and treatises. After ordination, she thoroughly studied the Vinaya, and her talents suited her for practical affairs. She excelled especially in teaching, dissecting subtle points and resolving doubts, delving into the profound and abstruse. Nuns of all ranks and ages regarded her as their teacher and respectfully took their place facing north. Wherever she went to offer guidance, her students followed in droves, carrying their scriptures. From the nobility and high officials to ordinary women, none failed to honor her. She passed away at sixty-three, in the second year of the Yongming era of the Qi dynasty.
