Commentary Outline of the Preface to the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment, Part 1

This preface aims to express gratitude for the blessings, praise the Dharma, and benefit the people. It follows the sequence of the title, elaborating on the meaning and unfolding the text. It states that all living beings with blood and breath must have consciousness, and down to the reality that all is one Way—despite differences in circumstances and changes—this is precisely the concept of "Perfect Enlightenment" in the title. From "that which the Buddhas of the past, present, and future have realized" to "the fundamental principle of all scriptures"—this corresponds to the three characters "of Righteous Meaning" in the title. The section on composing the commentary from beginning to end corresponds to the character "Commentary" in the title. Pointing out examples to encourage people is the profound benefit that the Prime Minister seeks to bring others. At the end, it says: "Having entered the domain of Master Xiuchang and received his profound instructions, I simply praise the Dharma directly and announce it widely to the public." This clearly expresses the original intention. If you examine it carefully, it is very clear and needs no further explanation.
