九折十演者

> \*\*The Nine Refutations and Ten Demonstrations\*\*

折者，屈也，即下九章有名之難辭。演者，水長流也，取連續不斷之義，即下十章無名之主義。雖以有名屈折，而無名之旨常通，故曰九折十演。者之一字，牒前標後故。

> "Zhe" means to bend or yield, referring to the difficult passages of names and labels found in the nine chapters below. "Yan" means water flowing continuously, drawing on the sense of uninterrupted progression, which represents the main theme of the formless and nameless in the ten chapters below. Although the text employs yielding through fixed names, the underlying principle of the nameless runs through it all. Therefore it is called "nine bendings and ten unfoldings." The word "zhe" \[者\] here both summarizes what came before and introduces what follows.
