Zen Patriarchs' Verses (禪門諸祖師偈頌)

二祖阿難尊者

Second Patriarch, Venerable Ananda

本來付有法(得地因師)。付了言無法(不從他得)。各各既自悟(飢飡渴飲。行住坐臥)。悟了無無法(喚什麼作山河大地)。

Originally, the transmission involves the Dharma being conferred(Attaining the ground depends on the teacher.). Once the transmission is complete, it is said there is no Dharma(It is not obtained from another.). Each person awakens on their own(Eating when hungry, drinking when thirsty; walking, standing, sitting, and lying down.). Having awakened, there is no "no Dharma" either(What would you call the mountains, rivers, and great earth?).
