### 示開聖隆長老

> Revealing the Sage and Honoring the Elder

開聖堂頭隆老。政和中相從於湘西道林。膠漆相投箭鋒相直。由是深器之。既而復相聚於鍾阜大鑪鞴中禁得鉗鎚。了此段因緣。日近日親。向從上來乃佛乃祖越格超宗。萬千人羅籠不住處。毛頭針竅間。廓徹虗通。包容百千萬億無邊香水剎海。拄杖點發列聖命脉。吹毛刃上截斷路布。據曲彔木床與人󳫠楔抽釘解黏去縛。得大自在。仍來夷門分座共相扶立。久之況箇一著臨濟正法眼藏綿綿到慈明楊岐。須風吹不入水灑不著底刢利漢。負殺人不眨眼氣槩。高提正印罵祖呵佛猶是餘事。直令盡大地人通頂透底絕死生窠窟。灑灑落落到無為無事大達之場。乃為種草。

> The Venerable Elder Long of Kaistang Temple. During the Zhenghe era, we journeyed together along the western Xiang River, to Daolin. Our minds met like glue and lacquer, our spirits aligned like arrows meeting head-on. Thus, I deeply esteemed him. Later, we gathered again at Zhongfu, within the great furnace of training, enduring the hammer and tongs, completing this karmic bond. Day by day, we grew closer. Looking back to the lineage of Buddhas and Patriarchs, transcending categories and surpassing schools—where tens of thousands could not confine them, in the space of a hair's tip or a needle's eye—all was vast, empty, and penetrating, encompassing billions upon billions of boundless fragrant seas of worlds. With his staff, he pointed out the lifeblood of the sages; on the edge of a sharp blade, he cut through tangled vines. Seated on his curved wooden chair, he drove in pegs and pulled out nails, loosening bonds and freeing constraints, attaining great liberation. Then he came to Yimen to share the seat, supporting each other in upholding the Dharma. Over time, he mastered the one crucial point: the True Dharma Eye Treasury of Linji, flowing unbroken to Ciming and Yangqi. He was a sharp individual whom no wind could penetrate, no water could wet—a person of fierce determination, unblinking even in taking life. Holding high the true seal, scolding patriarchs and reprimanding Buddhas were but minor matters. He directly caused all people under heaven to pierce through from top to bottom, cutting off the nest of life and death, arriving free and unhindered at the field of great attainment, where there is nothing to do and no affairs—only then planting the seeds.
