The Liturgy of Repentance through Veneration and Recitation of Amitābha, compiled by the monastic master Wang Zicheng of the Yuan Dynasty, is an important confessional text of the Pure Land school. This liturgy emerged during the flourishing period of Pure Land devotion in China. Its core is the veneration of Amitābha Buddha, incorporating rituals of repentance, vow-making, and Buddha-name recitation, guiding devotees to single-minded mindfulness of the Buddha and aspiration for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Its ceremonial structure is rigorous, integrating sutra passages, dhāraṇīs, and prostrations, embodying the Pure Land practice's emphasis on sincerity and ritual. It holds significant practical value within Buddhism and serves as an important text for the study of Pure Land repentance rituals and cultivation methods in the Yuan Dynasty, remaining in use in some Chinese Buddhist monasteries to this day.
