### 光明徧照第十二

> Chapter 12: Light Shines Everywhere

佛告阿難：「阿彌陀佛威神光明最尊第一，十方諸佛所不能及，徧照東方恆沙佛剎，南西北方、四維上下，亦復如是。若化頂上圓光，或一二三四由旬、或百千萬億由旬。諸佛光明，或照一二佛剎、或照百千佛剎，惟阿彌陀佛光明普照無量無邊無數佛剎。諸佛光明所照遠近，本其前世求道所願功德大小不同，至作佛時各自得之，自在所作不為預計。阿彌陀佛光明善好，勝於日月之明千億萬倍，光中極尊、佛中之王，是故無量壽佛，亦號無量光佛，亦號無邊光佛、無礙光佛、無等光佛，亦號智慧光、常照光、清淨光、歡喜光、解脫光、安隱光、超日月光、不思議光。如是光明，普照十方一切世界。其有眾生遇斯光者，垢滅善生、身意柔軟。若在三途極苦之處，見此光明皆得休息，命終皆得解脫。若有眾生聞其光明威神功德，日夜稱說，至心不斷，隨意所願，得生其國。」

> The Buddha said to Ananda: "Amitabha Buddha's majestic light is the most honored and supreme; the Buddhas of the ten directions cannot match it. It shines universally across Buddha-lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges in the eastern direction, and likewise in the southern, western, and northern directions, the four intermediate directions, above and below. The halo atop a Buddha's head may extend one, two, three, or four yojanas, or a hundred, thousand, ten thousand, or a hundred billion yojanas. The light of other Buddhas may illuminate one or two Buddha-lands, or a hundred or a thousand Buddha-lands, but only Amitabha Buddha's light shines universally across immeasurable, boundless, countless Buddha-lands. The distance that each Buddha's light reaches depends on the size of the vows and merit they accumulated while seeking the Way in former lives. When they attain Buddhahood, each naturally receives what is their own; it is not something deliberately calculated. Amitabha Buddha's light is excellent and beautiful, surpassing the brightness of the sun and moon by a hundred billion, ten thousand times. It is the most honored among lights — the king of all Buddhas. Therefore, the Buddha of Infinite Life is also called the Buddha of Infinite Light, the Buddha of Boundless Light, the Buddha of Unobstructed Light, the Buddha of Incomparable Light; he is also called the Light of Wisdom, the Light of Constant Radiance, the Light of Purity, the Light of Joy, the Light of Liberation, the Light of Peace and Security, the Light Surpassing the Sun and Moon, and the Inconceivable Light. Such light shines universally across all worlds in the ten directions. Any living being who encounters this light has their defilements erased, goodness arises within them, and their body and mind become gentle and pliant. If those in the three painful realms of extreme suffering see this light, they all find relief, and at the end of life they all attain liberation. If any living being hears of the majestic power and merit of this light, and day and night praises and proclaims it with sincere, uninterrupted devotion, they will be born in that Buddha's land according to their wish."
