The "Verses on the Whirlpool of the Avataṃsaka" is a commentary on the *Avataṃsaka Sutra* composed by the Tang dynasty monk Weijing of the Mount Heng Prajñā Temple. Venerable Weijing, a distinguished monk of the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, was deeply versed in the teachings of the Avataṃsaka tradition. This work elucidates the core concepts of the *Avataṃsaka Sutra* in poetic verse, employing the metaphor of a whirlpool to illustrate the boundless, interpenetrating realms of dependent arising within the Dharma realm. It systematically expounds profound Avataṃsaka principles such as the unimpeded interrelation of all phenomena and the identity of one with all. In Buddhist history, this text stands as a significant exegetical work of the Huayan school, inheriting the doctrinal traditions of Chengguan and Li Tongxuan. It exerted a profound influence on the development of Huayan studies during the Song dynasty and remains an essential text for researching Huayan doctrine and Tang dynasty Buddhist thought.
