> Dinglin Temple is located at the foot of Zhongshan, in a place called Jiangling Lane. It was built in the first year of the Yuanjia era of the Liu Song Dynasty (424 CE) for the monk Huilue. Twelve years later, the monk Dharmamitra established an Upper Dinglin Temple to the west of the mountain, and people thereafter referred to the original site as the Lower Temple. At that time, eminent monks such as Gunavarman, Sengjing, and Dharmakṣema all resided here. During the Tianjian era of the Liang Dynasty (502–519 CE), a pagoda was erected for the monk Baozhi on Duli Mountain, in front of the temple, and the remains of the monk Sengyou were interred on the temple's original foundation. By then, the temple had already been in ruins for a long time after the Qi Dynasty. It was not until the Song Dynasty that a meditation hall named Dinglin was rebuilt on the old site, which later became the study retreat of Wang Anshi.
