### 融覺寺

> Rongjue Temple

清河文獻王懌所立也在閶闔門外御道南有五層浮圖一所與沖覺寺齊等佛殿僧房充溢一漢魏無一字里比邱曇謨最善於禪漢魏義學講湼槃華如隱花嚴僧徒千人天竺國胡沙門菩提流支見而禮之號為菩薩流支解佛義知名西土諸夷號為羅漢曉魏言及隸書翻十地楞伽及諸經論二十三部雖石室之寫金言草堂之傳真教不能過也流支讀曇謨最大乘義章漢魏義在大上每彈指讚漢魏贊歎唱言微妙即為胡書寫之傳之照曠無之字於西域西域如隱不重沙門常東向遙禮之號曇謨最為東方聖人

> This temple was established by Qinghe, Prince Wenxian, named Yi. It stands south of the imperial road outside the Changhe Gate. Inside sits a five-story pagoda, equal in stature to the Chongjue Temple. The Buddha hall and monastic quarters fill an entire neighborhood. The monk Tanmozui was highly skilled in meditation and practiced the study of the scriptures. He lectured on the Nirvana Sutra and the Avatamsaka Sutra, and his community included a thousand monks. When the Indian monk Bodhiruci saw him, he bowed and called him a Bodhisattva. Bodhiruci understood Buddhist teachings and was famous in the Western Regions, where he was known as an Arhat. He had learned the Chinese language and clerical script, and he translated thirty-three works, including the Dashabhumika Sutra, the Lankavatara Sutra, and other scriptures and treatises. Even the writing of sacred words in stone caves and the transmission of true teachings in thatched halls could not surpass his work. When Bodhiruci read Tanmozui’s commentary on the Mahayana Sutras, he would snap his fingers in praise and exclaim, "Subtle! Wonderful!" He then wrote it down in Sanskrit and sent it to the Western Regions. Monks in the Western Regions often bowed eastward toward him and called Tanmozui the "Sage of the East."
