> East Pagoda Courtyard: During the Xiantong era of the Tang Dynasty, the eminent monk Wen Chi built a wooden pagoda east of the temple, and thus this courtyard was established. His disciple Hong Ze became known for his mastery of monastic discipline. Its fate during the Song Dynasty—whether it flourished or declined—is no longer traceable. In the twenty-third year of the Zhizheng era (1363), the resident master Kong Ji rebuilt it. In the Dinghai year of the Hongzhi era (1487), the monk Ting Fu oversaw its restoration, after which it was sold to laypeople. During the Wanli era, the monk Zheng Pai redeemed it and took up residence there. Vice Minister Zhan Yangbi inscribed a plaque for his dwelling, reading: "A Grove of Poetry, a Cushion of Chan." In the Jimao year of the Chongzhen era (1639), the monk Dao Zhao revived it and reclaimed the courtyard's lands and properties. He also newly built the Amitabha Hall, which stands on the original site of the pagoda hall.
