> Zhong Zhenzhi's Second Invitation Letter

曩寄《天學初徵》呈政，意尊者必出手眼，共閑聖道。而竟袖手旁觀，豈髫年千古之志，與世法俱棄耶？何謂未敢或忘也？邇來邪說益熾，不得已再為之徵。必祈為我斟酌。毋曰：「爾既不歸投佛法，吾亦不預聞儒宗也。」

> Recently, I sent you the manuscript of \*Initial Investigations into Heavenly Studies\* for your review, hoping that you would share your insights and join in examining the sacred path. Yet you chose to stand idly by—could it be that your lifelong aspiration from youth has been abandoned along with worldly conventions? What do you mean by saying you have never dared to forget it? Lately, heretical doctrines have grown even more rampant. Helplessly, I once again undertake this investigation. I sincerely ask you to deliberate on it for me. Do not say, "Since you refuse to take refuge in the Buddha's teachings, I too will not concern myself with the Confucian tradition."
