### 示陳生資甫八條

> Instructions for Scholar Chen Zifu<note place="inline">Eight Items</note>

孔子曰：「知幾其神乎？」說者謂：「幾者，動之微。」學者當於未動時著眼方乃得力。

> Confucius said, "Is it not divine to understand the subtle beginnings of things?" Interpreters explain that "subtle beginnings" refer to the faint stirrings before movement becomes apparent. Students should focus their attention on that state before action arises—only then will their efforts bear fruit.

○喜怒哀樂之未發，謂之中，正好於六祖「不思善、不思惡，如何是上座本來面目」同。參！

> Before joy, anger, sadness, or happiness arise, this state is called the Middle—exactly matching the Sixth Patriarch's words: "Not thinking of good, not thinking of evil—what is your original face?" Investigate this!

○文者心之章也，學者不達心體，強以陳言逗奏，是可為文乎？須向自己胸中流出，方始蓋天蓋地。

○《宗鏡》云：「聲處全聞，見外無法。」此語非透出毘盧頂𩕳上行者，定不知話頭落處。

○儒生有志於道者，獨向禪中求做工夫，卻不知念茲在茲便是上乘初地。

○夜氣清明攝心端坐，返觀內照寂然不昧處自見本來面目，母自欺也。孔子云：「吾未見好德如見好色者也。」足知天下不欺者鮮矣！

○飄風驟雨，颯然而至，試觀風從何來？雨從何至？此觀識得分明，萬物在已。

○譬如嘉苗望其秀實，賊蟊不除難其成矣！不獨世間，叢林學道亦然！
