### 示自庵有禪人住山

> "Self-Named Hermitage: A Zen Practitioner Dwelling in the Mountains"

佛言：「一切眾生流浪生死，皆是妄想顛倒以為根本。」妄想不休，生死難出，故為：「狂心不歇，歇即菩提。」吾人果能頓歇狂心，便是出三界、破魔軍，露地而坐，稱為無事道人。如此則鐵面閻羅老子縱有狠心毒手，亦無打筭摸索處，往來縱橫自由自在，一大解脫人。恁麼時節，即喚成佛作祖亦不耐聽，又肯向廁溷中與痴蠅作隊偷腥撲臭耶？如此則十方世界皆成淨土，以大圓覺為我伽藍，身心充滿其中，與十方諸佛把臂共遊得大自在。此則庵即是自，自即是庵；庵即是山，山即是人。無內無外，無彼無此，恁麼則住無所住、行無所行、修無所修方稱自庵？若養嬾坐馳，三生六十劫祗為他人作奴郎耳！思之！思之！

> The Buddha said: "All beings wander in the cycle of birth and death, with deluded thoughts and inverted views as their root." If deluded thoughts never cease, escaping this cycle is difficult. Thus it is said: "When the frantic mind does not rest, rest itself is awakening." If we can truly put down this frantic mind in an instant, we step beyond the three realms, defeat the armies of Mara, and sit freely in the open—this is called a person of no concerns. At such a time, even the stern-faced King Yama, with all his fierce heart and cruel methods, would find no place to grasp or probe us. We come and go freely, wandering at ease—a truly liberated being. At such a moment, even the titles "Buddha" or "Patriarch" would not be worth listening to. How could we ever return to the filth to mingle with foolish flies, chasing after foul smells? If so, the ten directions become a pure land, with the great perfect awakening as our monastery. Body and mind fill it entirely, walking arm in arm with the Buddhas of the ten directions in great freedom. Then the hermitage is oneself, and oneself is the hermitage. The hermitage is the mountain, and the mountain is the person. No inside, no outside, no other, no self. Only then can we dwell without dwelling, act without acting, and cultivate without cultivating—this is truly called "one's own hermitage." If we merely indulge in laziness and let the mind drift, even three lifetimes or sixty eons would only make us servants to others! Reflect on this! Reflect on this!
