### 示顧山子

> Mount Guanshi

余居雙徑之寂照，適居士顧子來參，扣其業，曰：「事形家。」次至化城，因指點山水，談造化之精妙超乎形氣，蓋得其精而遺其麤者。因詰之，謂嘗見《悟一篇》，謂作者亦奇人也。是篇乃余門生周子所述，余嘗序之且曰：「一乃萬物之本，造化之蘊也。故曰：『天得一以清；地得一以寧；聖人得一以為天下正。』正則不滑於邪而固其本也。然人與物、理與氣、心與形均一也。一得而眾理歸之。語云：『識得一，萬事畢。』故吾徒參玄之士，必曰：『萬法歸一，一歸何處？』斯則歸一可知，一之所歸則不可知也。」今夫人者萬務交固，萬慮攻心，紛紛擾擾，竟莫之寧，乃不識一之過也。居士既能觀天地造化之歸一，而不識身心性命之歸一，是知二五而不知為十也。苟知性命之歸一，則萬化備在於我矣！可不務哉！

> I reside at the Silent Illumination Hall on Twin Peaks, when Layman Gu came to visit. Asking about his occupation, he replied, "I practice the art of geomancy." Later, at the Transformation City, while pointing out mountains and waters, he spoke of the profound marvels of creation that transcend physical form—one who has grasped the essence and discarded the coarse. Upon questioning, he mentioned reading the \*Chapter on Awakening to Oneness\*, saying its author was also a remarkable person. This chapter was written by my student Zhou, and I once wrote a preface for it, saying: "Oneness is the root of all things, the hidden essence of creation. Thus it is said: 'Heaven attains Oneness and becomes clear; Earth attains Oneness and becomes stable; the sage attains Oneness and becomes the standard for the world.' Being standard means not being swayed by falsehood, thereby securing one's foundation. Yet people and things, principle and energy, mind and body—all are One. When Oneness is attained, all principles return to it. As the saying goes: 'Know the One, and all matters are complete.' Therefore, we who explore the mysteries must ask: 'All dharmas return to One—where does the One return to?' Thus, returning to Oneness is knowable, but where Oneness itself returns is unknowable." Now, people are entangled in myriad affairs, besieged by countless worries—restless and agitated, never finding peace. This is precisely the fault of not knowing Oneness. You, Layman, can observe how the creation of heaven and earth returns to Oneness, yet fail to recognize how body, mind, and life itself return to Oneness. This is knowing two and five but not knowing they make ten. If you truly understood that life and destiny return to Oneness, then the myriad transformations would all be complete within yourself! How could you not devote yourself to this?
