佛《阿毗曇經》云：「以一千阿僧祗世界眾生所有功德，成佛一毛孔；如是成佛一毛孔功德，遍如來身毛孔功德，成佛一好；如是成就八十種好功德增為百倍，乃成如來身上一相；所成就三十二相功德增為千倍，乃成如來額上一白毫相；以一千毫相功德增為百倍，乃成如來一頂骨相，一切飛天所不能見頂。如是不思議清淨功德，成就佛身。是故如來於天人中，最為尊勝。」

> The Buddha's \*Abhidharma Sutra\* says: "The collective merit of all beings in a thousand oceans of worlds is enough to form one single pore on a Buddha's body. The merit that forms one pore, multiplied across all the pores on the Tathagata's body, forms one of his auspicious marks. The merit of all eighty marks, multiplied a hundredfold, forms one major characteristic on the Tathagata's body. The merit of all thirty-two major characteristics, multiplied a thousandfold, forms the white curl of hair between the Tathagata's eyebrows. The merit of that white curl, multiplied a hundredfold, forms the crown protrusion on the Tathagata's head—so exalted that no celestial being can see its top. Such inconceivable, pure merit forms the Buddha's body. Therefore, the Tathagata stands supreme and most honored among gods and humans."
