### 迦如迦達婆羅多法勅

> Kakuda Kātyāyana Dharma Edict

摩揭陀國之天愛王敬禮於僧伽，述〔問候〕其少病時之樂住。

> The King of Magadha, beloved of the gods, pays homage to the Sangha and offers his greetings, inquiring after their health and well-being.

諸大德，諸師知朕既對幾何佛陀、法、僧伽而有恭敬與信心，諸大德，如何之事是薄伽梵佛陀所說此皆是善說。而且諸大德，今朕思惟：「如此正法得久住」而得指示〔如下〕：

> Noble ones, as you know, I already have reverence and faith in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Now, noble ones, I ask: in what respects are the teachings spoken by the Blessed Buddha called well-spoken? Furthermore, noble ones, I consider, "May this true Dharma endure for a long time," and so I instruct as follows.

〔即〕，諸大德，此等之法門，於毘奈耶最勝〔法說〕聖種〔經〕當來怖長〔經〕牟尼偈寂默行經優婆帝沙問〔經〕及關於妄語而薄伽梵佛陀所說羅睺羅〔經〕即是也。

> Venerable ones, these are the teachings: - The most excellent discourse on the Vinaya (monastic discipline) - The discourse on the Noble Traditions - The discourse on Future Dangers - The verses of the Sage - The discourse on the Silent Practice - The questions of Upatissa - And the discourse spoken by the Blessed Buddha to Rahula about lying. These are the teachings.

諸大德，朕希望眾多之比丘眾及比丘尼常常專聽聞此等之法門而使思念，〔希望〕優婆塞優婆夷亦如此。

> Noble friends, I wish for the community of monks and nuns to carefully listen to these teachings and reflect upon them. May the laymen and laywomen also do likewise.

諸大德，朕如是〔目的，即此四眾〕為得知朕意願以刻此。

> Noble practitioners, this is my purpose—for the benefit of these fourfold assemblies—that I have recorded this to make known my intention.
