"One Drop from Caoxi" is a Chan Buddhist scripture compiled by the eminent monk Zhou Li during the Ming Dynasty, completed in the late Ming period. The work compiles essential dialogues and koans of the Southern School of Chan from the Sixth Patriarch Huineng onward, supplemented by the author's own recorded dream insights. Its content is both profound and accessible, blending the Chan teachings on mind-nature with practical guidance for cultivation. The book systematically distills the essence of the Caoxi lineage, emphasizing the sudden awakening to one's original mind and the direct pointing to the human heart as the core of practice. In Buddhist history, it is regarded as a vital document for studying the evolution of Chan thought during the Ming and Qing dynasties, exerting a profound influence on later Chan development and remaining an indispensable work for understanding the essential teachings of the Southern School of Chan.
