> Chapter 9

「一三如三，二三如六，三三如九，此老人語。一二如三，二四如六，三六如九，不肖兒孫語。兒孫語，兩句玄，一句要。老人語，一句要，兩句玄。茲當應九之辰，權作供具。」拈香爐中，喝一喝。

> "One times three is three, two times three is six, three times three is nine—this is the old man's speech. One times two is three, two times four is six, three times six is nine—this is the unworthy descendants' speech. The descendants' speech: two lines are profound, one line is essential. The old man's speech: one line is essential, two lines are profound. Now, at this time when the number nine is fulfilled, I temporarily use this as an offering." He lifts the incense burner into the furnace and gives a shout.
