That concludes our brief introduction to the Vinaya studies. If there are any inaccuracies or mistakes, I ask for your understanding. Finally, I have a few more words.
It is wonderful that all of you are receiving the precepts here. In modern times, even the most famous monasteries outside this region—though they conduct precept transmissions—are far less thorough than what we have here. This is because the organizers here are exceptionally dedicated, full of vigor, and well-organized. I sincerely admire and praise them.
Take the teaching of the Vinaya, for example. During this precept transmission period, we have lectures on the novice precepts, the Bhikshu Pratimoksha, and the Brahmajala Sutra—rarely found elsewhere. A few years ago, the Grand Kaiyuan Monastery in Quanzhou pioneered such Vinaya teachings during its precept transmission, and everyone called it an unprecedented breakthrough. The excellence of this monastery's current precept transmission matches that of the Grand Kaiyuan Monastery years ago. Moreover, there are outdoor talks, giving outsiders an opportunity to plant wholesome roots—truly thorough and considerate planning.
This year, natural disasters have been frequent, and Quanzhou has not been spared. Amidst such sorrow and economic hardship, this monastery has managed to conduct a large-scale, successful precept transmission. This is undoubtedly due to the moral influence of our venerable elders and generous supporters. I am genuinely overjoyed to be here—this is the truth, not flattery. To have this fortunate opportunity to gather with all of you is deeply gratifying. In closing, I congratulate you all.

Twenty-fourth year, winter, eleventh month;
Those with wisdom diligently guard their precepts. With pure precepts comes wisdom. Thus they attain the supreme path, Just like the Buddhas of the past,
As well as those of the future, And the honored ones of the present. They overcome all sorrow— All of them revere the precepts.

(I have also received from Master Chuanguan a copy of Master Hongyi's message, posted on the wall during his Summer Retreat at Fulin Temple in 1941, respectfully addressed to the assembly. I record it as follows:)
Every two weeks, before the recitation of the precepts, each person should reflect on whether they have violated any precepts during that period. All such transgressions must be openly confessed and properly repented of. Do not neglect this.
Those who uphold the Eight Precepts commit an offense through body or speech, yet they also incur a minor fault through the arising of intent. If one deliberately gives rise to a defiled mind, this too should be confessed and purified.
In the Eight Precepts, false speech encompasses four types of verbal transgressions. Anyone who violates this should repent.
