> The empty courtyard's emerald hues glow through the window screen, Light mist curls around the trees as the evening sun slants low. Dim temple lamps still flicker in the ancient monastery grounds— All that remains are mulberry and hemp sown on the floor where mats once lay.

> Sunlight drifts lightly up the mossy steps, The hall's eaves brace the wind on ancient stones. Leaning on my staff, I search for words—the verse not yet complete— A blush of sunset clouds arrives from the green peaks.

> I often laugh at myself for being utterly useless, just a monk who eats his daily gruel and rice. I deeply regret having received the ancestral seal as a monk—what method can I possibly pass on to light the lamp of the Dharma?

> Spending the year in quiet retreat as best I can, Watching children play, piling sand into pagodas. Let’s not speak of passing clouds that drift before the eyes— Tonight the wind sweeps fallen blossoms from my stone bed.

> No one treads the mossy path to my door, so I leave it open all day long. Distant village smoke drifts where white birds fly; among the shifting clouds and trees, the green mountain shows its face.

> The red sun travels the sky, flames arise, From across the woods, the cuckoo's call arrives. I open the pine door to face the stream, Adding a clear, bright light to my empty window.

> Full woods of petals, full window of breeze, I check my poetry bag, each word feels empty. Beneath the steps, clouds lay with me through the night— I imagine they fled the heat, moving east of the wall.

> Bamboo doors hold shade, soothing the quiet heart, Last night's wind and rain reached the cloud-filled woods. Garden flowers have all fallen, no one sweeps them away— Watching birds carry them flying over distant hills.

> After a meal, a stroll and a bowl of tea, Who enjoys leisure like a mountain dweller? The fence is lined with lush green vegetables, And red flowers bloom on the trellis of broad beans.

> Sunflowers and pomegranates blaze like fire against the window's red, Willows trail their misty green, dancing in the evening breeze. This early summer scene is truly the finest of sights— As if heaven itself has placed me within a painted scroll.

> Birds vie in flight through the shaded courtyard trees, A mountain hut lies quiet, hidden in the emerald haze. By chance I reach the brushwood gate, hear a dog's bark, And in the evening sunlight's glow, a monk returns.

> After rain, the empty hall, mat and pillow cool, Half a lifetime spent on this simple rope bed. Bamboo-scented breeze drifts by, tea just brewed, A guest knocks at the door, arriving from the temple above.

> Outside, the emerald mountains seem to flow with green; Within the meditation hall, flowers and trees grow deep in quiet. Ripe apricots on the wall give off a fragrance ready to be picked, While birds come daily to peck at the treetops.

> How does the mountain elder spend his long summer days? Amidst clear springs, white stones, and vines that hide the pines. In seclusion, he delights in seldom receiving guests, Brewing tea to gently chase away the drowsy mind.

> A few homes nestled among the high, mist-clad trees, In the vegetable garden, the gourd flowers bloom. Behind the houses, a thousand peaks shelter a winding stream, A small bridge leans gently by a bamboo gate, slanting in the distance.

> Quiet and at ease, the body finds its rest. By the ancient stream, in shade, I lean on the stone altar. Where have these two white birds flown from? They preen their feathers, perched on the bamboo railing.

> Rain taps banana leaves by the window, Wind flips the sutra pages on the desk. In this ancient temple, no one else is near— My heart is full, content and free from care. Not like Pan Yue, who wrote of idle days.

> Who can truly fathom the life of a staff-bearing monk? This summer, I'll simply dwell in this remote village. A rustling wind through the woods, rain soon to fall— I gather dry firewood and close my door early.

> The overgrown path lies untouched, left to the wild grasses, I watch the clouds drift by, again and again, past the mountain's bend. From across the woods, lovely birds call out to one another, I long to listen once more, and they circle back again.

> On the plain, the magpies fly and cry, To the horizon, brothers vanish like distant geese. At Tong Pass, no yellow ape messenger crosses, Yet the three peaks of Hua Mountain remain green in sight.

> Breeze through the halls brings coolness at midday, Forest blossoms fall, the grass blooms sweet and gay. Who shares this moment with the guest at the red gate? Only the one who plays the flute to call the phoenix's mate.

> In the field, the clover grows lush and full, Gathering basketfuls, my heart's intent remains true. Yet I recall the hermits of the western hills, Whose gentle breeze stirs the sleeves of their robes.

> Without virtue, how can I speak of this teaching? In leisure, I daily stroke the pine by the stone. The aroma of wild vegetable stew wafts as it first cooks, A young boy strikes the bell, announcing the noon hour.

> Not one to wander with the clouds and streams, I cultivate a quiet life, Outside the door, the pine breeze cleanses the dust of passing guests. The summer solstice has just passed, the first heat arrives, Yet my heart, rooted in the Southern School, longs for the people of my southern home.

> Cutting clouds to mend my old monk's robe, When guests arrive, mugwort broth serves as tea. Keeping a three-foot space before my bed, I plant only yellow yam, never flowers.

> Rain-scented grass grows lush in the courtyard, Bees cling to flower stamens, circling the bamboo lattice. On the wall, the alms bowl pouch has hung high for so long, The incense in the burner has burned out, leaving only a single scroll of scripture.

> Cloud shadows drift idly, shading the low wall, Lotus flowers begin to bloom, filling the pond with fragrance. With this body, I have nothing left but such leisure, Sitting alone in a heap, welcoming the evening cool.

> The cool grass welcomes guests to this place, A gentle breeze now and then stirs beneath the eaves. Since morning, the village elders have often asked: "By the wall, the lush green grass is perfect for grazing the donkey."

> The puppy barks as evening clouds race by, The sun sets on the wild plain, doors shut early. Half the wall glimmers with the neighbor's shadow, How many homes light their lamps at dusk?

> I love the wild clouds and my lazy nature, lying back on white stones, pillowed by misty vines. Beyond the long forest, strange peaks stand tall, spitting forth lotus blossoms to meet the Wei River.

> Crimson cliffs and emerald valleys, layer upon layer of green, In the deep pines of midsummer, the mountain stream still holds ice. They say within these woods, tigers and leopards are often seen— Yet this fair mountain, in my gaze, I have climbed more than once.
