> Rhyming in Response to Passing the Liling Post Station

解鞍成小寢，部曲營夜炊。此生一寄耳，夢幻相拘縻。風飧雜舍者，水宿依江湄。何時步八塼？壓犀簾幕垂。三湘在圖畫，開屏供臥披。公宜宿玉堂，明甚無可疑。今復聊爾耳，間作虎頭癡。

> Untie the saddle for a brief rest, while the troops set up camp and cook their evening meal. This life is but a temporary lodging, and dreams and illusions bind us in their grasp. Eating in the wind among the soldiers, sleeping by the water's edge along the riverbank. When will I walk the eight brick paths, with the rhinoceros-horn screen hanging low? The Three Xiang region lies within the paintings, spread open for me to recline and view. You, sir, should dwell in the Jade Hall; your brilliance is beyond doubt. But for now, we simply pass the time, amusing ourselves with a tiger-head’s foolishness.
