妙峰山升佛上座，師秉拂示眾云：「大眾還會麼？釋迦老子來也，若也不會，未免山僧為汝諸人饒舌去也。秪如教中道：『法性遍在一切處，一切眾生及國土；三世悉在無有餘，亦無形相而可得。』又道：『天上天下無如佛，十方世界亦無比；世間所有我盡見，一切無有如佛者。』既道無形相而可得，又謂一切無有如佛者，汝等諸人作麼生商量？」良久云：「善來世尊！安然而住。」拈拄杖，下座。

> At Summit Peak, the Master ascended the seat, held the whisk aloft, and addressed the assembly: "Great assembly, do you understand? The Thus-Come One himself has arrived. If you still don't understand, I must speak a bit more for you all. As the scriptures say: 'The true nature of reality pervades all places, all beings, and all lands; the past, present, and future are entirely within it, without remainder, and yet it has no form that can be grasped.' It also says: 'In heaven and on earth, none compare to the Buddha; throughout the ten directions, none are his equal. I have seen everything in the world, and nothing is like the Buddha.' Since it's said to be formless and ungraspable, and yet also that nothing compares to the Buddha, how do you all make sense of this?" After a long pause, he said: "Welcome, World-Honored One. Abide serenely." He took up his staff and descended from the seat.

師曰：「上前一步，不如退後一步。上前一步死，退後一步亡；只如不進不退，未免死水裏浸殺。諸仁者作麼生是出身之路？」

師曰：「有心思量是賊，無心思量是魔；總不恁麼，又是鬼窟裏活計。」以眼顧視大眾，便下座。
