> The Layman Sends Plum Blossoms and Asks for a Poem Before Returning Home

南嶽有雲留不住，東歸結伴過湘湄，解將疏影橫斜句，不換垂珠的皪詩。臞甚鳶肩寒入畫，清哉鶴骨老難醫，定知入嶺風煙暮，正及追胥餽歲時。

> On Mount Nanyue, clouds linger but cannot stay, Returning eastward with companions, crossing the Xiang River's bay. They interpret verses of sparse shadows slanting across, Yet exchange not the poem of hanging pearls, crystal and bright. Lean are the kite-shoulders, cold enough to paint, Pure are the crane-bones, aged beyond repair. Surely they know that entering the mountains, wind and mist at dusk, Arrives just in time for the year-end offerings and pursuits.
