> Clarifying Zen Practitioners

端的究明生死底人，自然孤迥迥地，不掛寸絲。二十年三十年捩轉面皮，討個分曉，便是千手大悲也互換你不得，此乃過量的人也。若是隨漏輳漢，喚東向東、喚西向西，腳跟下浮逼逼地，豈肯向他古人真實田地上行。只管貪程，那知爛泥中有刺，轉得腳來未免通身泥水。你且道：孤迥迥地底是？隨漏輳底是？參。

> One who truly investigates the matter of life and death stands utterly alone, not even a thread clinging to them. For twenty or thirty years, they turn their face around to seek clarity—even the Thousand-Handed Great Compassionate One cannot exchange places with them. Such a person is beyond measure. But those who merely follow the crowd, answering when called east, turning west when directed west, drift unsteadily beneath their feet. How could they walk on the true ground of the ancients? They only rush ahead, unaware of the thorns hidden in the mud—by the time they lift their foot, they're already soaked through. Tell me: which one stands truly alone—the one who investigates, or the one who follows? Reflect on this.
