The Combined Volume of the Outline and Commentary on the "Vinaya in Practice," "Sūtra on the Precepts," and "Sūtra on Karma" was compiled and organized by the modern eminent monk Master Hongyi. Completed during the Republican period, this work presents an essential outline and commentary on the Three Major Vinaya Texts of the Nanshan School, originally authored by the Vinaya Patriarch Daoxuan of the Tang Dynasty. Its content systematically elucidates Buddhist precepts and discipline, comprising the outline texts and recorded commentaries for the "Vinaya in Practice," the "Sūtra on the Precepts," and the "Sūtra on Karma," thereby providing a clear framework for the study of the Vinaya School. This book holds a lofty position within Chinese Buddhism, serving as an authoritative text for the study and practice of Buddhist discipline. It has profoundly influenced the revival of Vinaya studies in modern times and is regarded as an essential commentary for students of the Vinaya School.
