Chapter 2: Method for Conferring the Three Refuges
一、懺悔。二、正授三歸。三、發願迴向。
1. Repentance. 2. Formal Acceptance of the Three Refuges. 3. Vow and Dedication of Merit.
應先請授者詳力解釋此三種文義。因僅讀文而未解義，不能獲諸善法也。
First, one must request the teacher to thoroughly explain the meaning of these three texts. For merely reading the words without understanding their meaning will not enable one to attain the various wholesome teachings.
正授三歸之文有多種，常所用者如下：
The text for formally receiving the Three Refuges has several versions; the one most commonly used is as follows:
- 我某甲，盡形壽，歸依佛、歸依法、歸依僧。(三說)
- 我某甲，歸依佛竟、歸依法竟、歸依僧竟。(三結)
前三說時，已得歸依善法。後三結者，重更丁寧令不忘失也。
The first three explanations had already established the foundation of wholesome teachings. The latter three summaries serve to reiterate and ensure these truths are not forgotten.
懺悔文及發願迴向文，由授者酌定之。但發願迴向，應有以此功德，迴向眾生，同生西方，齊成佛道之意，萬不可唯求自利也。
