### 一〇

> Ten

如是我聞。爾時，世尊住憍賞彌瞿私多林。爾時，優填王往〔王〕苑時，後宮失火，奢摩囀帝為首五百婦女皆死亡。爾時，眾多之比丘晨早著內衣持鉢衣，往憍賞彌托鉢，食後由托鉢歸來，近於世尊，禮敬世尊，坐於一隅。坐於一隅之彼比丘等如是白世尊言：「大德！今優填王往〔王〕苑時，後宮失火，奢摩囀帝為首五百婦女皆死亡。大德！彼優婆夷等未來如何？來生如何耶？」世尊言：「在此，彼優婆夷等有預流者，有一來者，有不還者。諸比丘！是故，彼優婆夷等死而不無果報。」世尊知此已，彼時唱此優陀那：

> Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was staying in the Ghosita Grove at Kosambi. At that time, when King Udayana went to the royal park, the inner palace caught fire, and five hundred women, with Samavati at their head, all perished. Then, in the morning, many monks dressed in their robes, took their bowls and outer robes, and went into Kosambi for alms. After their meal, returning from the almsround, they approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, those monks said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, when King Udayana went to the royal park, the inner palace caught fire, and five hundred women, with Samavati at their head, all perished. Venerable sir, what is the future for those female lay followers? What is their next life?" The Blessed One said: "Among them, monks, some female lay followers were stream-enterers, some were once-returners, some were non-returners. So, monks, those female lay followers did not die without result." Having understood this, the Blessed One at that time uttered this inspired verse:

「世人愚癡縛，以見可能相，愚人本質縛，為黑闇所覆。彼如見永恒，所見無何物。」

> Ordinary people are bound by their ignorance, seeing things as solid and graspable. The foolish are bound by their own nature, covered over by darkness. They imagine they see something permanent, but what they see is nothing at all.

二人羅婆那跋提，執著諸欲有情二，羅婆渴愛之滅盡，妄想滅盡迦旃延，水井之水優填火，以上合計共為十。
