天下有一可傳，雖死猶生；無一可傳，雖生猶死。是冊也，諸名公無一存於世矣，其詩其文，豈與敗壞之軀同朽腐耶？萬峰當天山老人恢復之初，外護如申文定、蔡忠襄輩，問道往來，詩文玉藻，固吳中第一勝事也，豈獨為法苑光乎？當珍而惜之。

> There is something in this world worth passing down—even in death, one lives on. Without anything worth passing down—even in life, one is as good as dead. This collection, though none of the renowned figures it records still exist in this world, preserves their poetry and prose—how could these perish alongside their decaying bodies? During the early days when Elder Tianshan restored Wànfēng Monastery, lay protectors such as Shen Wending and Cai Zhongxiang came and went seeking the Dharma, exchanging verses of exquisite beauty. This was truly the finest cultural achievement of the Wu region—how could it be merely a glory for the Buddhist community? It must be treasured and preserved with care.
