> Demonstrating Emptiness to the Novice Monk

持戒但束身，非身無所束，正是衲戒消息；而人不會，都在者三頂衣、一口缽上名之為戒。若此，不獨上辜諸聖，抑且下負己靈。試問：如何纔是手把豬頭持淨戒，衣包狗骨入婬房？

> Upholding precepts is merely restraining the body, but if there is no body, what is there to restrain? This is precisely the subtlety of a monk’s discipline. Yet people fail to understand this, and only think of the three robes and one bowl as what constitutes the precepts. If that’s all it is, not only do they betray the sages above, but they also betray their own spirit below. So tell me: How can one hold a pig’s head in hand yet keep the pure precepts, or wrap dog bones in robes yet enter a brothel?
