### 御製藏經讚

> Imperial Eulogy on the Tripitaka

朕惟如來為一大事出現演三藏十二部之玄言所以指教垂義者尚矣自其言流于中土翻譯其義以化導羣類非上根圓智之士鮮能以通之而得其要者或寡矣夫治心修身所以成道心也者虛靈明妙煥然洞徹該貫萬理而無所遺也是故啟多聞必由於藏海原萬法本歸於一心以是修證超乎圓妙常住不動無有所蔽此誠末世之津梁迷途之明炬也朕撫臨大統仰承鴻基念皇考皇妣生育之恩垂緒之德劬勞莫報乃遣使往西土取藏經之文刊梓印施以資為薦揚之典下𢌿一切生靈均霑無窮之福如是功德有不可名言若夫世之由迷惑真交纏故業茫然而莫之所歸者不究竟於斯亦莫能得其體而返其真也推是心以濟拔流轉引援沉淪者亦如來慈悲之願也用是為讚以揭于卷首且以翼流通於無窮焉讚曰。

> I reflect: The Tathāgata appeared in this world for one great cause—to proclaim the profound truths of the Three Treasuries and the Twelve Divisions of scripture, establishing teachings to guide and instruct. Since these words spread to the Land of the East, translations have been rendered to transform and lead all beings. Yet, without supreme wisdom and perfect understanding, few can comprehend them, and those who truly grasp their essence are rare indeed. To cultivate the mind and refine the body is to realize the Way. The mind is vast and luminous, brilliant and clear, penetrating and unobstructed, embracing all principles without omission. Thus, to awaken profound knowledge, one must draw from the ocean of truth; for all teachings ultimately return to this One Mind. Through practice and realization, one transcends the perfect and wondrous, abides in eternal stillness, and remains untouched by delusion. This is truly the raft for the end times and the bright torch for those lost in confusion. I, as Emperor, receive the vast mandate and uphold the great foundation. Remembering the kindness of my imperial father and mother—their grace in giving me life and establishing the heritage—I find their toil beyond repayment. Therefore, I send envoys to the Western lands to obtain the sutra texts, have them carved into blocks, and printed for distribution. This meritorious act serves as a grand offering for their blessings, extending to all living beings so they may share in immeasurable good fortune. Such merit cannot be expressed in words. For those in the world who, confused and deluded about truth, are entangled in past karma and wander aimlessly without direction—if they do not ultimately rely on these teachings, they cannot grasp their true nature and return to reality. To use this mind to deliver the wandering and rescue the sinking is also the compassionate vow of the Tathāgata. Thus, I compose this eulogy to place at the beginning of the scroll, hoping it will aid in the endless circulation of the Dharma. The eulogy says:

如來演義諦 法音徧充周世界恒河沙 一一皆具足化導於羣類 咸得成正觀有漏諸微塵 悉超於覺海歷阿僧祇劫 廣開方便門迷妄執空華 一切了明徹有一弗徹者 誓不成佛陀我今念眾生 是故廣演說深心奉塵剎 俱願證菩提上報二重恩 下濟諸途苦並登無上覺 欲漏盡消除成就勝妙心 以拯諸末劫廣此密因義 布施於竺乾頻伽大梵音 至妙不思議如十方擊鼓 無礙於音聲有耳皆獲聞 聞者即成覺堅固無動轉 永不墮輪迴世尊為證明 作如是讚歎功德不可說 永被於生靈

> The Tathagata proclaims the truth, His Dharma-sound fills all realms completely. In worlds as countless as the Ganges' sands, Each one is fully endowed with this truth. He guides and transforms all kinds of beings, So all may attain right understanding. Every subtle atom of conditioned existence Transcends entirely the ocean of awakening. Throughout countless eons, he opens wide The gate of skillful means for all. Those lost in delusion, clinging to flowers in the sky, See everything clearly and completely. "If even one being fails to see clearly, I vow not to become a Buddha." I now think of all sentient beings, And thus I teach extensively. With a deep resolve, I serve countless worlds, All wishing to realize enlightenment. Above, I repay two kinds of kindness; Below, I rescue all from suffering's paths. Together, we ascend to supreme awakening, All defilements and desires completely eliminated. I achieve a sublime, wondrous mind To save beings in the final age. I widely spread this secret cause, Bestowing it upon the land of India. The Kalavinka's great Brahma sound— Supremely wondrous, beyond conception— Is like drums beating in all ten directions, With no obstruction to the sound. All who have ears will hear it; Those who hear will instantly awaken. Firm and immovable, They will never again fall into samsara's cycle. The World-Honored One bears witness, And offers this praise: "Such merit is indescribable, And will forever benefit all living beings."
