### 復鑒吾禪師

客冬有短章奉候，兼奏謝事退耕之說，想已達之慈座矣！昭陽賴道力，不惟無首領之虞，而雞犬桑麻猶然化日光天，邇來聞益歸命三尊，從此天人將熾盛，庶幾修羅亦衰殺恚瞋。獨弟四載天童豪無寸補，迨今投老空山，復受有眾之累，支繁幹折得不閔傷，然叨在月愛三昧中，或幸而免耳！茲因化士匈淮揚，豈曰九里借河潤？正以春風改律。即日恭惟起居多福，特申訊問，可任葵傾。

> Last winter, I sent a brief letter to inquire after you and express my intention to withdraw from worldly affairs and take up farming—I trust it reached your compassionate presence. Thanks to the power of the Dharma, I have not only been free from worries about my safety, but my chickens, dogs, mulberry trees, and hemp fields still bask in the light of peace and order. Lately, I hear you have increasingly taken refuge in the Three Jewels, and from this, the realms of gods and humans shall flourish, while the realm of the asuras will diminish in their anger and malice. As for me, in my four years at Mount Tiantong, I have accomplished nothing of merit. Now, as I grow old and return to the empty mountains, I am again burdened by the responsibilities of leading a community. The branches are heavy, and the trunk may break—how could I not feel concern? Yet, dwelling within the samadhi of the Moon of Compassion, perhaps I may be fortunate enough to escape harm. Now, as a wandering monk travels to the Huaiyang region, it is not merely a matter of borrowing moisture from the nine-li river—rather, it is like the spring breeze ushering in a new season. I respectfully hope that your daily life is filled with blessings. I send this letter to express my deep regard, like a sunflower turning toward the sun.

> Furthermore,

翰教諄諄，極承雅愛，然至人化物，不有己躬，所以地藏恆居地獄、迦文亦降跡娑婆。夫地獄陋矣！即娑婆亦異方賢聖，見聞隨喜，多生下劣心者，則何利何名而迦文顧樂生此土？誠以佛心所緣，緣苦眾生，蓋思有以拯拔之耳！彼青齊僻在海堧，禪道佛法不聞可知。因客冬大覺之請，自鄙愚蒙，敢云吾道其東，亦或為之兆乎？且歲直奇荒，抑弟不佞又不能卻夫慕羶之徒，人貧智短，計惟暫應山東，少弛祥光負擔，不謂其不可，遂有如來教所云也。語有之，「見可而進，知難而退。」當此紛拏之世，弟亦將三思而後行，若夫冒利沽名，辱乃宗黨，吾知免夫。冀寬高明之慮，幸無憂勞是請。
