> A lone sail casts its slanting shadow, The sky stretches endlessly, waters know no bounds. Cloaked in white moonlight, leading the crimson dawn, Vast, rolling waves are my home.

> By the misty shore with red knotweed, a fine place to cast the rod, Through curling fog and clouds, upstream against the current. Swift currents display their grace, clear waters hum with joy— The whole universe, vast and intricate, is right there between the eyebrows.

> A lone angler with a single thread does not fish, In all the universe, there is none like him. He busily dips his oar, swiftly sets the trap, Yet golden scales are rarely found within.

> From the very start, it was never found by seeking elsewhere, Only endless melancholy, regret, and sorrow remain. The moonlight is faint, the water's hue serene, Rolling up the cloud-curtain, I hang a single hook.

> On shallow water's sandy shore, green lotus blooms abound, Where evening breezes carry floral scents all around. Fragrance rich, with dew-kissed red aglow, A clear melody rises through the fading twilight's glow.

> Not dwelling on the mountain's base, circling by the water's edge, Clearly pointing directly, it lies in what is natural. If you hesitate or deliberate, you fall into words and explanations. Unless you meet a true friend, the boat will not turn back.

> Looking out, clouds part to reveal the open fields' mood, A light rain over river and sky washes the dusty sails. The straw cloak and hat are worn, the waves calm, Hoisting the long sail high, we finally set out.

> Displaying the sutras, turning the boat around, By the river maples, desolate and cold mist's bound. Wind stirs the trees, moonlight fills the sky, A few sparse stars, the mind at ease, naturally high.

> Whether turning north or south, all is renewed, Above, no tiles; below, no dust to be viewed. Sometimes hidden, sometimes revealed, Alone in heaven and earth, no one else concealed.

> Late boat against the current through misty shoals, suddenly meets scales churning, waves spreading shadows wide. Bait of clouds, breath of fishy scent, with a turn of the reed pole, cast the line down once more.

> With a light oar and short paddle, I drift upon the stream, Where Jeta's trees stand thick, revealing distant peaks agleam. By the black stone shore, in the reed-filled bay, I sing and hum, my heart at ease, along the way.

> Breaking from worldly grain, I wander free, breathing out the subtle truth, Peach blossoms have all fallen, willow catkins drift on the breeze. Clouds hang upon the trees, mist dampens my robe, The bright moon, carried by the wind, returns with me.

> The wind fills the sail, the moon floods the boat, Across the reeds, fishing lights flicker through autumn mist. Drifting by day, forgetting the net by night, Returning home, no need for silken lines to pull me.

> Twelve hours of the day, my spirit feels at ease. Beyond the Han border, clouds deepen, colors grow faint. The distant bell falls silent, dawn has broken. The moon departs, the sun arrives, accompanying my journey.

> Why be troubled by loneliness or anger, when the universe itself is your companion? When hungry, rest; when weary, lie down. With just a rope's end, the moon keeps you company.

> All day, free and easy among water and clouds, Through wind and rain, gathering firewood, I pass this pass. Watch the flowers fall, listen to the water flow, Heaven and earth allow me a lifetime of leisure.

> Leaves cut through a thousand ripples, a single hook below, Algae shift, veiling and revealing the old ancestral path. Sometimes cast out, sometimes reeled in, How many times has it won, the spirit free and serene.

> The water's gleam, the mountain's hue—they understand each other well, Coming and going, meeting the moment, each place is fitting to dwell. Encounter the wise and noble, meet the innocent child, Pour out all your family secrets, speak to them with heart mild.

> Clad in mist and rain, I fish all day, utterly poor with nothing to my name. A bamboo hat at my waist, a pole in hand, Before the oar, heaven and earth are but a single reed boat.
