Vipashyin, Shikhin, Vishvabhu, Krakucchanda, Kanakamuni, Kashyapa, and Shakyamuni. These great and virtuous World-Honored Ones proclaimed these matters for us. Now I wish to speak them well; let all you worthy ones listen together. Just as a person with ruined feet cannot walk any distance, so too is one who breaks the precepts— they cannot be reborn among gods or humans. If you wish to be born in the heavens, or to be born among humans, you should always guard the feet of your precepts, and never let them be damaged. Like a charioteer entering a dangerous road, grieving over a lost pin or a broken axle, so too is one who breaks the precepts— at the time of death, they are filled with fear.
