### 瑞等禪師小傳

> Biography of Chan Master Rui Deng

覺斌

釋瑞等字寂平，漳州海澄縣白水宮陳氏子也。因看破世緣，發心出家，投本寺依轉武上人座下，脫白披鬀焉。未幾，往興化廣化寺懺摩具足得菩薩戒位，後往南洋參學，頗有聲譽，數年後返國服務本寺任監院職，與轉逢長老共謀重建大雄寶殿，師力居多，佛殿工程告竣引退，復往南洋宏法，名聞利養，無動於衷，師之為人，於此概見矣！而師性好施，人所不及，如本寺大悲殿此次重建，工程浩繁，需款眾多，師在南洋募有巨款接濟，厥功甚偉，今特記之，以誌不忘云爾。

> Shi Ruideng, whose secular surname was Chen, was born in Baishui Palace, Haicheng County, Zhangzhou. Having seen through worldly attachments, he resolved to leave the household life and took refuge at this temple under the guidance of Venerable Zhuanwu, where he shaved his head and donned monastic robes. Not long after, he traveled to Guanghua Temple in Xinghua to undertake repentance and receive full ordination, attaining the Bodhisattva precepts. Later, he journeyed to Southeast Asia for further study, where he gained considerable renown. After several years, he returned to his homeland and served this temple as the abbot's assistant. Together with Elder Zhuanfeng, he planned the reconstruction of the Great Hero Hall, contributing greatly to its completion. Once the hall was finished, he retired from his duties and returned to Southeast Asia to propagate the Dharma. Fame and material gain could not sway his mind—such was the character of this master! He was also exceptionally generous, surpassing others in his compassion. For instance, during the recent reconstruction of this temple's Great Compassion Hall, which required extensive work and substantial funds, he raised significant donations in Southeast Asia, providing crucial support. His contributions were truly remarkable. This record is made so that his deeds may not be forgotten.
