### 重修洞山峴石禪院疏

> Restoration Appeal for Dongshan Xianshi Chan Monastery

海內名邦，湖襄稱最。襄中祖剎，峴石居先。神定老開荒肇建，守初翁繼志中興。嗣後宗師疊出，代不乏人。惜乎明末世亂，緇眾逃亡。山林厄於斧斤，殿閣災於水火。幸獲蒼巖古洞，得無恙矣。衲自今春，杖笠遙來，憩質其間。欲期舊案重新，頹綱復振。希趨善者，聞風而翕然。冀欣施者，揮金而不斁。儻蒙垂允，請注芳名。

> Among the renowned cities within the realm, Xiangyang stands out as one of the finest. Among its ancient temples, Xianshi Temple holds the foremost place. It was founded by the venerable master Shending, who first cleared the land and established the monastery, while the elder Shouchu later carried on his legacy and revitalized it. From then on, eminent masters of the tradition emerged in succession, never lacking through the generations. Alas, during the turmoil of the late Ming dynasty, chaos brought ruin, and the monks fled in all directions. The mountain forests were ravaged by axes and saws, and the temple halls were destroyed by fire and flood. Fortunately, the ancient caves among the crags and cliffs have remained unharmed. Since this spring, I, a humble monk, have come from afar with my staff and straw hat, resting and dwelling amidst these ruins. My hope is to restore the old foundations, and to revive the fading tradition. I wish for those who are inclined toward goodness to gather like the wind at the news, and for generous donors to give freely with joy, growing ever more willing.
