### 廣教寺

> Guangjiao Temple

在州治南十八里當狼山之陽，唐總章二年建，在江中山上。昔人有詩曰：飛來靈鷲嶺，化作寶陀山。山前後乃江海相接處。舟出三山間，水湍礙石，率多覆溺者，有僧率其徒操舟以護之，舟免觸石之患，故有慈航之名。近年江水南徙，山之前後皆為陸田。後人有詩曰：昔年航底浪，今日馬蹄沙。皆紀實也。

> South of the county seat, eighteen li away, lies the southern slope of Wolf Mountain. The temple was built in the second year of the Tang dynasty's Zongzhang era (669 CE), situated atop a mountain rising from the river. An old poem describes it: "The spirit Vulture Peak flew here, transforming into Mount Putuo." The mountain's front and back meet the river and sea. When boats passed through the three peaks, the turbulent waters would dash against the rocks, causing many shipwrecks. A monk led his followers in boats to protect passing vessels, saving them from crashing into the rocks—hence the name "Boat of Compassion." In recent years, the river's course has shifted southward, and the land around the mountain has turned into farmland. A later poem captures this: "In past years, waves struck the hull; today, horses' hooves kick up dust." Both verses record what truly came to pass.
