> The One Enlightened Mind is the original, enlightened nature of all beings throughout the ten realms. Beings in the six paths, obscured by karmic afflictions, fail to realize this nature—this is called "non-enlightenment." Practitioners of the three vehicles, though they have cut off afflictions and realized truth, have not yet reached ultimate perfection—this is called "partial enlightenment." Only the Buddha, with all afflictions completely purified and the original nature fully seen through, is called "complete enlightenment." Though delusion and awakening differ, the essence of enlightenment is one and the same. As the treatise says: "Originally equal and the same in enlightenment."<note place="inline">The ten realms are: the Buddha realm, Bodhisattva realm, Pratyekabuddha realm, Śrāvaka realm, heavenly realm, human realm, asura realm, hungry ghost realm, animal realm, and hell realm. The Buddha is also called a "being" because the Buddha is the supreme being. The six paths are: the heavenly path, human path, asura path, hungry ghost path, animal path, and hell path. The three vehicles are as previously explained.</note>
