### 與張二水相國

> To Minister Zhang Ershui

浴佛前，二禪人來捧華劄并佳惠，何等慈念？未及裁答，以乏便郵耳！石刻起人清貪，既喜法韻鏘然，又愛墨妙道婉，金粟如來毫端說法，真令篋笥藏不住放光矣！想近日悟門都已忘卻，更不為老居士打葛藤，恐美食不中飽人餐也。前所供通，並是詣實。

> Before the Buddha bathing ceremony, two Chan practitioners came bearing flowers, a letter, and generous gifts. What a compassionate thought! I have not yet had the chance to reply, only because there's been no convenient messenger. The stone inscription truly stirs one's pure aspirations; I delight in both the resonant elegance of its Dharma-words and the subtle, skillful beauty of its calligraphy. It's as if the Tathagata of Golden Light is expounding the Dharma through the tip of each brushstroke—the radiant truth simply cannot be hidden away in a box! I imagine that by now you have already let go of all attachment to "gates of enlightenment," and there's no need for me to keep entangling an old layman in more vine-like explanations—I fear that fine food is not meant for those already full. Everything I previously offered to you is the truth itself.
