### 為聖慈師作

> For the Venerable Master Shengci

僧中有翹楚，神骨異凡鄙；挺然好堅木，來學望標幟。觀師道器醇，慈和心篤摯；重法輕己身，繭足詢煙水。講席既咨求，宗閫亦游詣；所貴在真參，寧肯濫相似。事母學長蘆，尸饔躬滌器；菴居澹忘情，不苟徇聲利。長跪書《法華》，焚拭山窗几；一畫一稱名，一字一投地。墨花浮素縑，展誦毫光起；七軸六萬言，一義無量義。筆端轉妙輪，見者皆歡喜；以此勇勤精，慧深行亦傋。今年度逢初，天命知無始；生從何處來？笑裂虛空齒。

> Among the monastics was an extraordinary one, With a spirit unlike the common and worldly. Upright and resolute, like sturdy hardwood, He drew seekers as a beacon for guidance. Observing his profound spiritual nature, Compassionate and kind, with a sincere heart, He valued the Dharma above his own being, Traveling tirelessly, seeking wisdom afar. In lecture halls, he consulted and inquired, In meditation halls, he fully immersed. What he treasured was genuine practice— How could he settle for shallow imitation? Like the ancient master Filial Piety, He tended to his mother himself, cooking and washing. In his humble hut, he transcended worldly ties, Neither chasing fame nor seeking profit. Kneeling long, he transcribed the \*Lotus Sutra\*, Burning incense, cleaning the mountain window desk. With every stroke, he chanted the Buddha's name; With every word, he prostrated in devotion. Ink-flowers bloomed on white silk, Radiant light arose as he recited and chanted. Seven scrolls, sixty thousand words— Each phrase held infinite meanings. From the tip of his brush, the wondrous Dharma turned, Bringing joy to all who beheld. Through such diligent and focused effort, His wisdom deepened, and his practice was complete. This year, as he reached his beginning, He realized the timeless nature of the Dharma. From where does birth arise? A smile shatters the teeth of empty space.
