> Song of the Twelve Hours

夜半子，百億須彌俱出此，大千沙界掌中觀，本自無生何有死？

> At midnight's hour, billions of Mount Sumerus arise together, In the palm of your hand, the vast universe is seen; Originally unborn, how could death exist?

雞鳴丑，遮段風光誰不有，一輪明月體中圓，莫學癡狂外邊走。

> At the rooster's crow, it is the Hour of the Ox, This wondrous scene—who lacks it? A full moon, round within the body's core; Do not, like the foolish mad, seek it outside.

平旦寅，丈六金身草一莖，分明道破誰能會，千聖從來一路行。

> At dawn, in the hour of the Tiger, a six-foot golden body is but a blade of grass—clearly spoken, yet who can grasp it? All the sages have always walked this single path.

日出卯，不二紅輪明杲杲，山僧拄杖頭邊事，料得時人知道少。

> At the hour of sunrise, the red sun rises bright and clear. The matter at the tip of the mountain monk's staff—I reckon few people in this world truly understand it.

食時辰，看來誰是我般人，擊碎虛空無別物，天生拄杖萬年藤。

禺中巳，向上機關無一字，若能直下肯承當，本地風光非別事。

日南午，龜毛慣擊虛空鼓，分付東風著眼聽，遮般消息無今古。

日映未，搬柴運水真三昧，零落袈裟沒半邊，山僧不與人同類。

晡時申，八字眉毛眼上生，慈心鐵面誰能敵，擊碎虛空棒一根。

日落酉，生平不喜揚家醜，若問西來何祖意，磨盤八角空中走。

黃昏戌，毒若砒霜甜若蜜，遮般異味幾人知，舌上青天揮霹靂。

人定亥，三千世界憑吾賣，恒沙諸佛出毛端，一毫收攝三千界。
