### 能仁寺募書本藏經疏

> Appeal for the Donation of the Woodblock Buddhist Canon to Nengren Temple

黃面老四十九年口勞舌沸，末後拈提只一花，歷代祖千七百則短葛長藤，究竟渾無元字腳。久參上士未舉先知，直下打翻，全超露布，豈在披文逐句靡靡然以當生平也乎？雖然，若欲博古窮今，亦須時稽歲覽，所以琅函玉軸漲學海之波瀾，異藻奇葩增祖庭之秀麗，誰道貪淹黑豆漢？到頭總屬自家珍。茲有某上座者戒珠淨朗，德寶溫醇，始發夫廣大心願，行此殊勝事，伏冀英賢垂隻手，於一毫端示現三車，直教衲子豁雙睛，坐微塵裏嘗轉萬卷，皇恩仰報，佛法流傳，古柏枝頭撐出無私新日月，能仁寺內別開有象小乾坤，功不唐捐，福莫可量矣。敬書側理，代懇檀那。

> For forty-nine years, the Sallow-faced Old One labored with words, exhausting his tongue and breath. In the end, he merely held up a single flower. The patriarchs of successive generations left behind seventeen hundred cases—long creepers and short vines—yet in the end, there is not a single character. A seasoned practitioner understands before it is even spoken. But if one wishes to explore the past and comprehend the present, one must also take time to review the years and seasons. Thus, the jade scrolls and delicate texts swell the waves of the ocean of learning, while exotic blooms and rare wonders enhance the beauty of the patriarchs' hall. Who says they are merely black-bean-counting fools? In the end, it is all one's own treasure. Now, a certain venerable practitioner, whose precepts are pure and bright as a pearl, whose virtuous qualities are gentle and warm, has first aroused the vast, compassionate mind and vows to carry out this extraordinary undertaking. We humbly hope that wise and virtuous beings will extend a hand, to manifest the Three Vehicles from the tip of a single hair, and directly cause the monks to see clearly with both eyes, tasting ten thousand scrolls while sitting within a mote of dust. May the Emperor's grace be repaid, and the Dharma spread far. From the old cypress branch emerges a new, impartial sun and moon; within the Temple of Capable Benevolence, a distinct, tangible small world is opened. The merit will not be wasted, and the blessings are immeasurable. We respectfully write these words, turning to you, the generous donor.
