爾時，一比丘〔思：〕「如斯者，世人當敬重我。」如此，以欲求心住阿蘭若，世人尊敬彼。彼心生悔恨……乃至……以此事白世尊……乃至……「比丘！非波羅夷。然而，諸比丘！勿以欲求心住阿蘭若，住者突吉羅。」

> At that time, a certain monk thought, "If I live like this, people will honor and respect me." So, with a heart full of desire, he stayed in a remote forest dwelling. People did indeed respect him. Then he felt remorseful... and so on... He reported this matter to the World-Honored One... and so on... The Buddha said, "Monk, this is not a Parajika offense. However, O monks, do not dwell in a remote forest dwelling with a heart full of desire. If one does so, it is a Dukkata offense."

爾時，一比丘〔思：〕「如斯者，世人當敬重我。」如此，持欲心行乞食，世人敬重彼。彼心生悔恨……乃至……「諸比丘！不犯也。然而，諸比丘！勿持欲心行乞食，行者突吉羅。」

> At that time, a monk thought, "If I act this way, people will respect me." Driven by such desire, he went on alms-round, and people did indeed respect him. He then felt remorse... \[up to the standard phrasing\] "Monks, this is not an offense. However, monks, do not go on alms-round with a desiring mind. If you do, it is a wrong-doing."
