### 示韞荊壁上座

> "Showing the Assembly at Yunjing's Wall"

壁上座多年叅學真切為己不肯輕𤼵躁露迨叅我大雄一見得之累呼入室因命尅期取證不一日捉敗趙州驚人之句皆從實地中流出舉古人公案驗之悉能不為語縛且志願遠大惟視人如己豁達大度當為佛祖出氣可耳。

> The Elder of the Wall sat in meditation for many years, studying with genuine sincerity for his own sake, unwilling to make hasty claims or reveal himself prematurely. When he came to consult me at the Great Hero Hall, I recognized his potential at first sight and repeatedly called him into the chamber. I then instructed him to set a deadline for attaining realization. Within a day, he captured the startling words of Zhaozhou, all flowing from genuine ground. When I tested him with the ancients' koans, he was able to avoid being bound by mere words. Moreover, his aspirations were vast and far-reaching; he treated others as himself, with openness and magnanimity. He is truly one who can give voice to the Buddhas and Patriarchs.
