示九霞劉公：諸佛諸祖所貴成現，只要當人自肯耳。若或入于意想，逐其聲色，於本分中翻成分外。檀越之省要處，料不在此說中。第恐智人面前有三尺暗，故引筆及此，如能體之言外，則大智現前矣。

示周居士：思劬勞，奉甘旨，至今猶惓惓于念，為人子者之所當然。如論大孝，此亦小節，須向情未生、念未起時，一眼覷破本來面目，劬勞之恩不待報而報矣。又豈在侍慈顏、奉甘旨而為孝乎？然令先慈生平節操水霜，以念佛為急務，而志不可奪，殊不知未舉念時，早與彌陀覿面矣。

> To Layman Zhou: Dutifully recalling your mother's hardships, providing her with the finest delicacies, and holding these thoughts tenderly in your heart—these are natural for a filial child. But if we speak of \*\*the Great Filial Piety\*\*, these are merely small matters. You must see directly into your True Nature before any feelings arise or thoughts emerge. Then, the kindness of birthing and raising you is repaid without need for repayment. How could filial piety be limited to serving your mother's gentle face and offering her sweet foods? Yet your late mother lived a lifetime of unyielding integrity, making mindfulness of Amitābha her absolute priority, unwavering in her resolve. Little does she realize—before a single thought arose, she had already met the Buddha face to face.
