### 重登黃鶴樓有序

> Reascending the Yellow Crane Tower <note place="inline">With a Preface</note>

戊午秋，同葉西、一蕊入南嶽，從此過洞庭，登岳陽，險涉君山。今葉西已作故人，一蕊又棲遲舊里，余因參黃蘗，將遊眉山阻風，復登一望，愁賒不勝腸結。

> In the autumn of the year Wuwu, I journeyed with Ye Xi and Yi Rui into the Southern Mountains. From there, we crossed Dongting Lake, climbed the Yueyang Tower, and ventured perilously into Junshan Isle. Now Ye Xi has passed away, and Yi Rui lingers in our old hometown. I came to visit Huangbo, and while traveling to Mount Mei, I was held back by the wind. Climbing up for another view, my sorrows stretch endlessly, knotting my heart beyond measure.

轉蓬飄泊又經秋，情在那堪此再遊？明日洞庭風縱便，拼教不上岳陽樓。

> Drifting like tumbleweed, another autumn has passed, My heart, how can it bear this journey once more? Tomorrow, even if the winds over Lake Dongting are favorable, I’ll choose not to climb Yueyang Tower again.

翻空惡浪想君山，涉險乘橈共往還，何事殊途今日淚？當時談笑死生間。

> Tossing on empty waves, wild thoughts drift toward Mount Jun, We braved the dangers, shared the boat, together came and went. What makes our paths diverge, and brings these tears today? Back then we laughed and talked as if death and life were play.

死者難追生者疏，名山五岳更愁余，癡心終擬同禽向，肯使山濤請代書。

> The dead are hard to follow, the living drift apart, Famed mountains and five peaks deepen my despair. A foolish heart still dreams of joining birds in flight— How could I let Shan Tao write a letter on my behalf?
